Hi guys
I have an XH with a T5. When i shift fast second gear crunches hard. If i shift normally its fine. I think it comes down to a bit more than me just being a crap driver Could the syncro be one the way out? Cheers Ben |

Hey mate,
My last T5 i had in my EF did the same thing. A real quick shift into second and it would crunch, sometimes it woulnt go in and you go to plant your foot and your car revs off the tacho..... I put a newer T5 in and the problems all sorted. So my guess would be the syncros. Hope that helps?

Try using a lighter oil in the gearbox, like ATF II or III with an additive like Nulon G90.
I can slam through the gears easy. I run 80% ATFIII and 20% VMX80 and the Nulon gearbox additive. Works well hot or cold.

i have an EA T5, and as we know they have no syncro in reverse, nice and crunchy, ive found that if the clutch cable is not bang on its ALOT harder to get reverse.
somthing easy to check 1st, as on a hard shift im unsure how you shift, the clutch pressure point may be too far toward the floor etc. |

Weird, since getting my new clutch/flywheel/cable reverse doesn't crunch and hasen't for 6 month, also try running first then chuck it in neutral rev then hit second untill it warms right up

Will second that proper clutch cable adjustment makes a massive difference, especially with reverse.
My synchros are worn badly but behave well if the pressure is just right. Better synchros can obviously handle a wider range of shifting conditions but theres always room for improvement with some messing around.

i use penzoil sure shift drag racing fluid and penrite lubrizol wich is for t5 manual gearboxes BUT! as mentioned adjust your clutch cable if i change my adjustment i can get second everytime but my HD clutch is stuffed so if i move it so i get a good gear change i change it some where else and its hard to drive around town....any way i would agree and say it has a lot to do with adjustment
