gday all
was out cruising last night not being a hoon or a d**k head or anything, but managed to make my front left tire hit a big old nasty box kerb, at about 20-25 kays. the other side did not hit nothing at first the car seemed fine, further driveing revealed that when steadily turning left there is a deep, rhythmic clunking sound coming from the front end. any suggestions on what could be broken? i checked it all out last night and it seemed to be fine. im putting it on jacks today to see if i can find the source. any suggestions on what mite be wrong and how to check it cheeres all steve |

how tight did you do the bearings?

ermm i know there is a NM setting but i kinda played it by feel,
tight enough to stop the rocking, but not so tight that its overly restrictive. my dad helped me and hes had something like 30 years in this sort of stuff so im gonna trust him on this one lol. |

TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND ITS FIXED YAY!
ironicaly got brethalised a kay down the road ...must have seen me swerving side to side from the chooper lol stearing feels more direct too, a must do in my opinion for any of the older cars, takes about 8 mins each side well worth it even if you just tighten the nuts, its increadibly simple cheeres all |

that would be tie rod ends, and TYRE, STEERING, etc, so what was the problem? the rim buckled?

sorry my spelling is not too top notch, i spell things FONETICALY(my fingers are also fat lol)
ermm well the TIE ROD ENDS are rooted and the rim was a littled damaged but nothing huge turns out the nut that holds the bearings in was lose like when you jack the car up and grab the tire top to bottom and rock it well i tightend the nut and the rock was gone ALONG WITH THE CLUNK so im guessing lose wheel bearings, becuse tightening them fixed it lol |

dosent quiet sound right to me loose wheel bearing wiil cause indirect stering but dosent explane the thumping noise and all that id still be cecking ball joints and tie rod ends... when stasinary turn the wheel one way a little to take up tenson and turn the wheels slightly then turn the the other way slowly till it takes up tension n see if there is a slight thump or inconsistansy in the wheel feel...
