I had the grand rally s tyres on my first car. I told the old man that they were crap and he said no its the way you are driving...
three months later he said AWW they are s**t as. he braked as he was coming up to an intersection, and one wheel was on the white painted line on the right hand side of a 4 lane divided road... and that wheel locked up haha.. POX I think the grand rally, would be everytime you wanted to brake, corner or accelerate you could possibly end up in the bushes haha

The xr6 turbo had 17 inch factory fitted items with plenty of tread, my pirellis were on the wear bars just across the middle but there was a bit of tread on the edges, and yeah I beat the xr 1.07 was my time and 1.10 was the xr turbos time but its all about your budget. can you afford 200 a corner tyre or more? Also, has anyone ever driven on Good year grand rally S (standing for s**t) also available with the same tread pattern - Remmington LOL those tyres should never have passed australian standards testing, worst heap of garbage I have ever driven on! Yeah, I remember those, they were std fittment on XE falcs. The ol'man had them on his XD, and when he got rid of it in 94, it still had the original spare, a Dunlop ER78. Brand new, never used. He bought the XD in 82. Was a 250, 4sp Spack sedan in Venus orange.( an in your face orange). It was in mint condition when he got rid of it, still had the factory windscreen in it. Anyway, back to tyres, how about the ol Firestone Wide Oval's??? The older guys would remember them, hard as nails, only gripped on a stinkin hot day, and skated all over the road in the wet. Same went for the the Kelly Charger's, the ones with the fine tread pattern, absolute sh!te.

How about the old TA radials. Now there was a lethal tyre.

The old style wide ovals had a really fine tread pattern, absolutely useless in the wet. A mate had some on an XE back in 87, and did this huge burnout with them the day he got the car, and abused those tyres regularly, and 3yrs later were still on it when he sold it, and still had half tread remaining.

I had Falken ziex 17s and they stick to the road like glue. wont even budge even when accelerating around a corner in the wet.
I now have Nexen N3000s and i think they too are great tyres. Good grip, low noise and an aggressive tread pattern. |
