the trusty single spinner in my EL is screaming its head off so i guess its time to change it, i was thinking about doing a stright swap over to an LSD diff, but considering that i clock up about 1500-2000ks p/w on the freeway i was wondering how much id lose if i went to an LSD(3.45) vs single(3.08).

Are you sure you have a 3.08?
I went from 3.23ss in my EF to a 3.45lsd, in 5th it used to sit on 2k rpm @ 100, now it sits on 2200-2300 or so.

3.45's in a 6cyl e series will be 2150rpm @100km/h. 6 cyl also should have a 3.08 diff. xr6's got 3.45

v8's got 3.23 i think and maybe the ghia.

thanks guys, those rpm's sound a little to high for h'way driving so i think i'll just put a reco kit through the 3.08 diff :)

My EL fairmont has a 3.23 as std. You really want to make sure you know what you've got. The ratio is printed on a sticker on my EL axle and is about 30 to 40cm to the left of the drivers side wheel. Clean it with some saliva or the like. There is no metal tag.

Thats why I said are you sure its a 3.08? My EF std is 3,23, mates EF mont is 3.23, el mont 3.23.......

Also theres no point reco'ing a stock ratio ss diff.. absolute waste of money.

hmm i'll check it out later, to hot atm and im hung over from last night :? but i do know that at 100kph its doing about 1600-1700rpm(ish), and 98% of my driving is on the h'way so taller the better.

Auto, manual?
I just did a quick google, and it says the EF/L came out with 3.08 and 3.27... will check the workshop manual when I get home...

Good to check the axle sticker.

Otherwise "failsafe" method is to check driveshaft rotation versus wheel rotation.

I think my 3.23 sees me doing about 1700rpm at 100km/h, but don't quote me on that.
