I was just wondering where you guys with different diff ratios sourced our crown and pinion wheels.
I know the wreckers is probably the most likely answer. From memory the R31 skylines had 3.9 and 3.7 ratios and the same diff. Is this what others have molested to get there magic ratios? I'm thinking of bumping up the ratio from 3.23 to 3.7 when i do an LSD change over as i've been told the shift to 3.45 isn't really worth it.

You could try a diff place.
I got my 3.9's from Craft Diffs here in sydney.

andrewsfutura, a couple of quick Q's!
1) Your I6 diff gears... would they be compatible with a V8 diff? I've got an EB V8 with a 3.27 diff (LSD). 2) I f so, how much? (and does the speedo calibration gear come with it?) Gimme! (I'm 200ish km east of Melbourne) Cheers -Dave-

Oh crap, are the rpm really that high at 100km/h ?
I have a 5 speed too, I didn't think it would be that high though.

hey dude, the EB diffs had a different housing i think** You can do a direct swap of the crown and pinion but im not sure whether the actual diff housing would suit for and EB? anyone else know? and no iy wouldnt come with the different speedo gear.

I've got the same Question, as to whether it would fit into an EL XR8.
I was pretty sure it would, but not 100%. If so how much would you want for the 3.7's? Thanks Dave |

Housings will all interchange, its just the bushes on the trailing arms that changed, well, some diffs brackets are narrower, but with the correct bush for the diff at the diff end of the control arm, and likewise, your original bush at the body.
Although, with brakes, I dont know for sure, but would at a guess say all would bolt up, swap over... |

with diff housings, you only needed to change it if you had 3.08 or a 2.92 or the older type. The 3.23's and the 3.27's should be fine!
Cheers

The whole diff will fit straight into any E Series, bar probably the EA due to the tailshaft yolk being different at the diff end.
The only problem with pre-EF is the different brake/handbrake setup. I have put an EF diff in a mates EB2, and it worked fine with a little mods to the EF handbrake and brakelines. So if it goes into an EB, you end up with the better rear brakes and better hand brake. No more caliper seizing either. In the EB, we used the existing arms EB arms and it all bolted in sweet. |
