hi guys, my EA Fairmont is f@#ked
i need help on what the problem is, takin to mechanic, he replaced the diff due to the spider gears being of centre, we replaced it with a LSD from FTG wreckers and it is still havin problems, driving doesnt make a noise its only when you change from R to D on the trans that the diff makes the noise plz post of you have had the same problem or suggestion |

mate not much you can do about it,,you have to realize that the output shaft is going from being forced in one direction to another,so there is going to be a noise somewhere in the drive train.
as the pinion is the only part that allows excess movement it will make a noise. get used to it as all the cars I've owned have done it.

Yeah its the lash in the diff. The BA onwards have a flex coupling on the driveshaft to absorb this lash but its not compatible with a single peice driveshaft.[/b]

Have you thought about checking the Uni-Joints?

also check upper and lower control arms when these go they allow rotation of the diff which can cause this noise.

If UJ's were to clunk betweed D & R the car would be undrivable due to severe vibrations in the driveline. |

yeh i have checked the uni joints their fine, that was first look when i got the car back, i havent checked the control arms, i will deffinatly have a look at them and get back to you

i meant control arm bushes not the actual arms just to clear it up
