I changed the oil in my LSD diff(NA six)as it was wining a bit at high speed,so put in new oil to see if it would fix it.the test drive was ok but as I pulled in to the drive it started to clunk, but only when slowly going forward and in reverse.any one know why new LSD oil would make it worse than it was with the old oil.

Have you seen if its still an LSD? and hasn't worn off, ie spin the wheels, see if both spin, like on grass or something.
Did you put LSD oil in? You sometimes have to do really tight circles, to work the LSD, and that smoothes them out most of the time. If not, sounds like your diff is in for a reco. Cheers

I put LSD Oil into it so I will try the circle work that you mentioned,I put the car up on stands last night and both wheels are turning at the same time and I did not hear any clunks but when the car was back on the ground it was clunking.I have a spare LSD Centre in the garage,is there a visual inspection that you can do to check if ok etc?

The only thing I can think of to check on the diff while its still is to check the slack on it. You want a nice form Diff, if you move the tailshaft around, and it moves, that means its a loose diff, same with moving the wheel really. Thats about the only on the spot inspection I know. If you are talking about the actual centre, um.. wear marks, scratches, if there's oil on it, if it has fragments in it. That kind of stuff...
Cheers

I checked the diff play when I changed the oil and it was ok,no metal in the oil or bottom of the diff housing and no scratches or nicks on the teeth.I went to a diff place today to get some info and he said that the LSD diffs were very touchy when they change the oil they take the centre out and deglaze it then new oil and a adative as well,so got some adative fo $12.50 and have put it in,so now see if it fixes it.

Yes it is lubricant made by penzoil,it was only a 150mm bottle and seemed to do the trick, all I did was jack the car up so as the oil would not come out the drain hole and squirted the addative onto the Diff centre and the rest into the oil,and today the noise seemed to be gone,so $12.50 well spent I thought. The diff still wines a little but not as noisy as it was, maybe a trip to Melbourne and back may fix it a bit more as I have only done about 20ks around town since changing the oil.
