hey i find the whole ratio thing with diffs really really confusing.. how does messing with this increase performance? and what is good for an AU III?
also... i want to lower my auIII what are the best springs to get i hear superlows and ultralows are okay? also what prices am i looking at for changing diff ratio + lowering? Michael |

The higher the ratio, i.e. larger numbers the quicker your car will accelerate, but there is a downside of lower top speed, and higher revs at speeds, so this can lead to more fuel consumption. This is because the engine is turning more times for less turns of the wheel.
Alternatively, you can lower the ratio, less acceleration, high top speed, better fuel economy crusing on highways, etc. You really need to find a balance that suits your car, and application. |

thanks.. what is wrong with the standard then wouldnt that be the best mid ratio ? for fuel consumption,acceleration,top speed?

isn't a lower ratio 3.9:1 and a higher ratio 3.08:1.
higher means longer legs and lower means quick acceleration. JIM |

Can anyone tell me what the standard factory diff ratio is for an EF?
Also, how much extra acceleration do you get out of upping the diff, say, 0.3?

standard is 3.08 for a EF.
