G'day all;

Can anyone recommend any good places to get my EB2 diff reconditioned?

I gave D&R Differentials in Chipping Norton (Sydney) a call for a rough idea of what I should expect to pay, and they quoted $770 for a full drive-in, drive-out rebuild.

Also, does anyone know of any places that provide exchange reconditioned diffs in the Sydney or Canberrra regions?

Thanks for that Papa, will give them a buzz tomorrow morning. Do I ask for anyone in particular?

Also, on a side note; would two different size tyres fitted to the rear wheels on a non LSD GLi EB Falcon have the potential to ruin a diff that was already in average condition?

I had two new tyres fitted to the rear prior to driving to Queensland last week, although found out that the left rear one was faulty, resulting in a substantial vibration at 100km/h and above. A mechanic subsequently replaced the faulty wheel with the spare, although didn't realise this spare had a different size tyre fitted to it.

After driving it around for a while, the vibration appeared completely gone although I started to notice strange 'clicking' and 'rattling' noises coming from the left rear wheel. This noise was only evident while appying brake pressure at 40km/h and below. The noise is not evident while driving normally.

I've had a good look around, and there is definitely nothing lose or worn in the area, although all seems okay.

Does this seem like a diff issue?

It is more likely a not so good fitting wheel? I wouldn't run around too long on it though, for safety's sake. :roll:

We've already tried replacing the spare with the initial dodgy one, although it still did it... So it still did it with two different rims and tyres, so definitely not that... :?

The car has officially been diagnosed as having a bent left axle.

Prior to leaving for Queensland a couple of weeks ago, I had the rear wheel bearings replaced at the same time I had new rear gyres fitted. After speaking with the mechanic, he informed me he had a heap of trouble removing the left rear wheel bearing, where the old bearing had to be cut off using an oxy. The new bearing was placed back onto this heated axle, using a 5 tonne press.

In anyone elses opinion, would this have contributed to the bent axle?
