Hi i have a dc ltd that had a 5l in it, i removed the engine and trans and fitted it to my xg ute.

Both diffs had the same ratio, i assume the ltd diff is limited slip as it has the high performance tag on the filler cap.

Looking at the size of the diff section itself(the section with the crown wheel etc in it looks bigger that the leaf spring version in the xg.

1. is it a bigger stronger diff?
2. can i grind of all the mounts etc and fit/weld on leaf spring saddles, will it be the same width?
3.If the limited slip isnt working can that be rebuilt at home?
I have access to a press if needed

thanks in advance

Having the 'high performance tag' doesn't mean LSD, it means it has a 4 pin hemisphere.

LSD should have high perf. SLIP RESISTANT tag. (or simular)

Easier to change the hemisphere, and keep the a*** with the diff it was from.

Check it is LSD first, and having a yellow sticker and 3.23:1 or 3.45:1 doesn't mean it is LSD.

you'll need the take the centre out to rebuild it as they 'lap the cones in, you can swap over the cones (left to right) and pray for the best tho.

Dont take this as gospel, but AFAIK all LTD's and Fairlanes had LSD's anyway. the easy way to check is get one of your mates to hold one axle by the studs. Then try to turn the other one. If you can, its either really f**k or its a single spinner. If not, it's a limo
