Hi all,
I'm after recommendations for a good differential workshop in Victoria. I've got a BF Tornado and in the last couple of months I've noticed a bit of extra backlash and more recently a bit of a whine on deceleration. There a no leaks or nasty noises yet, and the LSD is still nice and tight (car doesn't get abused). I wanted to get a freshen up soon, rather than waiting for things to go pear-shaped first. It's currently got about 370rwkw and is driven once a month, with 3-4 track days per year. I've been in touch with Geelong Differential Service and Trans Diffs & Gears (Thomastown) so far, both offering similar work at similar prices, however I can't really find any feedback for either business. Please let me know of your first-hand experiences with good/honest workshops in Victoria - I'm not interested in "I've heard XXX is good", or your cousin's best mates fathers workshop. I only want to hear from people that have actually forked out the cash and are happy with the work done. I'm happy to travel wherever I need to go in order to get good work done. I've had a s**t run with workshops over the last couple of years, "specialists" promising the world and delivering sub-standard work. I'm not a fussy guy, I just expect that if I'm paying good money that I should get good work/service in return. My ute is my pride and joy, I just don't want to risk any more muppets getting the opportunity to taint it. Cheers, |

Have you tried draining the oil and putting some synthetic oil in it? There was an issue with those diffs and they required an additive to fix the issue but, if you try synthetic fluid that issue is null and void.
A cheaper way to go rather than big $$$$ to fix a problem that may NOT be so hard to fix? |

I've used Chris's Differential Services in Werribee. He did a great job at fixing my noisy AU diff and pointed out some Ford assembly problems (that he also fixed). Chris also builds diffs for drag cars.
He offered me a Trutrac diff but I opted for an $1100 rebuild instead. No complaints about his service. http://chrissdifferentials.com.au/

Hi guys,
Sorry for the delayed reply - I'm not getting all of the thread reply notifications. Pendaws21 - yep, definitely using full synthetic in the diff. Penrite Pro Gear 80W-140. Shortshift - If the FB page is anything to go off, it looks like he has some happy customers running his gear in some big power cars, including some that cop a good hiding too by the look of it. I've got a couple of centres out of my Patrol that need some work done - I might take these down to Chris as a tester. It looks like he does a fair bit of fabrication work too which is also a good sign. Thanks for the info guys - I'll report back once I've had some work done. |
