hey all
swapped my 3.08 for a 3.45 LSD the other week, and now have a few clunks i need to get sorted... i'm not sure if its the suspension, or someone mentioned it could be the cones in the LSD? i'm not too crash hot on diff internals, but it doesn't clunk when accelerating, nor can i replicate the noise whilst stationary - it happens when driving & going over bumps etc. could it be the trailing arms need to be mounted on the lowered setting? (i remembered i didn't fir them to the lower bolt-holes after i'd put it all back together). any suggestions would be much appreciated! cheers

Fraser, I got the same thing when I went to my 3.45.
I did use the lower diff settings. I always thought it was my swaybar links hitting the floorpan, cause there is some marks there (why they would suddenly decide to hit, I dont know). It's like a hollow kind of 'thunk' yeah, that seems to come from either either one side, or both? The only thing I haven't checked is whether the shockers are bolted tight, I mean they dont look loose, but they might be.

yeah i checked the shock towers jared but they seem ok... it *might* be the swaybar as i wasn't overly confident w/ the mounting points after i swapped it all over.
it sounds a lot worse than what i think it is - its not coming from the diff centre itself and everything was nice & tight when i bolted it all back up. i need new shocks anyways so i might get a shop to refit it all & i'm sure they'll spot something if its a problem! lol

Dsheps if its an auto does the shifter move back and forth slightly when the rear has some weight in it driving over dips and humps, if so its the upper control arms. I know mine are worn and the rear does clunk a little. Will be replacing them when i lower the ol' girl.

yeh same,
If I have 1 rear passenger and I hit it hard, I get loud 'bangs' and when I have 2 rear passengers... and accelerate in second at about 60ish I get it again... I've put it down to the Upper trailing arms. As I've only changed the arms to the EL XR ones and the EL watts link. before then... I had No Probs! Either way... it makes me drive conciderably calmer with passengers! but its on for young and old when Im lonesome!
