Do the Diff gears change between EA-EL? NOT the ratios but the gears themselves as I want to put 3.9's in my XG but Im not sure if they will suit????
As I had my Diff rebuilt recently I had a single spinner 3.27, and I supply'ed a LSD centre with 3.27's from an ED and when I picked it up the guy said he could not use one set as they were to suit a Narrow carrier?? What dose this mean?....The hole in the housing or between the bearing caps? What tpye of Diff do XG's have?.... is it still XF? |

The later EL's had a different pinion...bigger thread on it too. Not sure what he meant.

Is it possible to install EL gears in to earlier Diff's then? Is there a difference from XF-EA,EB gears? |

I have fitted a set of EBII diff gears ( 3.27 ) into an XD ute diff that was a 2.92:1 LSD. I had also fitted an EA LSD centre into an EBII housing. I am currently using an EBII diff housing in my ED, with an aftermarket 28 spline 4 pinion LSD, with EBII axles and my old EA brakes. I went to fit some late EL gears ( 3.23 ) into an EA housing, when I found the EL pinion was a lot different. I'll have to take photo's one day and post them up.

Can you get any measurements of the pinion thread so I can forward them to the guy how I may be buying the gears from so I know what he has?

OK, had to find where the pinions were, One is the EL 3.23, and the other is an EA 2.92.
I went to fit the EL gears and could get the crush spacer to fit. The EL is 2mm shorter than the EA one....hence fitted EBII gears instead. The cleaner one is the EL pinion. The thread sizes are different too, 3/4" UNF verses 22mm. I hope this helps.

how hard is it to remove the pinion gear apart from removing the axels, and diff center? do i need a press or will the pinion gear just fall out or tap out once the pinion nut has been undone and removed? is the any special tools i will need ie a puller?

The Charger diff is bent, hit a Patrol at about 80kmh and twisted the Patrol chassis by about 80mm. Needed new chassis, and the Charger was a right off......wasn't mine.
The only E series are 25 spline 2 pinion LSD. Going use it in a VF Valiant diff housing to go in my SV1 Valiant.
