so an entire new centre would probably be a good bet. Whats the usual price for a 3.45 4-pinion centre?

what internals would a EA 3.23 LSD have. 2 pinion 25 spline etc etc???

it also has the early style tail shaft to pinion bolt on. can i just unbolt that and put the later style on?

Ea-EB1 had 25 spline.

Need to set preload if changing the pinion, not easy. Change tailshaft instead.

can't you just unbolt the tail shaft thing (whats it called) off the front and put the EB one on?

You could probably change the flange on the tailshaft easily but not the flange on the diff.

The bolt that holds the flange to the diff also sets the preload for the diff gears. Touching it could throw the preload out and stuff the gears if not done right.

Nowhere near as well as a 28 spline 4 pinion will. Be patient & wait for a 28 spline 4 pinion diff to pop up, but keep the cash handy to jump on one when it does.

Cheers

Yes you can I have stuck a XF LSD in a EA falcon before and changed the diff/tail shaft flange over to take the better tail shaft they are compatible .... Hope that helps but the 4 pinion will handle the power better and for longer than the 2 pinion will (I have had full spools, mini spools, lockers, rtv diff centers with manual diff lock setup via relay in a AU ute and 4 pinion LSD's all over all depends what you are going to use it for?

Mini spool = wank factor
full spool = drift/track/strip work
LSD = daily with both legs supporting the power
BA RTV locker = recreational ute that may require a locker

For a good one that is fair money, have you priced what it costs to get them rebuilt? Not to mention what most wreckers want for them these days!

Cheers

I chose the Lokka, because for 1) Nobody has has LSD's for sale out here, they all seem to come up in the capital cities and thats way too far for me to drive... 2) Cost was virtually the same & for 3) It fitted inside my existing diff and I could do it myself without having to re-shim anything... The added bonus was unlike a 15 odd year old LSD that probably has worn clutches, a Lokka doesn't wear out...

Cheers,
Tim

i'm gunna try blow it up and heathcote drags next weekend

you forgot to mention that if you pour the power on with a locker things can turn bad quickly, going from differentiating to locked and spin out. I'd prefer an LSD on a circuit and a locker in a straight line personally...

Also I'm looking out for someone who might be able to do me up a 9" with LSD, 3.45:1 Ratio to fit an AU. I can organise a live axle diff to go off. Want to retain factory fitment and shock mounts and fit BA brakes to the rear, and a yoke and axles that can cope with anything i can throw at it with 400+RWKW
