Could you fit a T5 gearbox from an BA XR6 Turbo to an EL Falcon? Would it be a straight swap or do you need to do mods? I'm curious because I'm kinda thinking of dong an auto to manual conversion. My chance to get a cheap T5 from a BA Turbo is getting smaller as time goes by so a quick reply would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it would be the same, Except that the BA's have a hydraulic clutch and the XR-6T T5 has the AU V8 gear ratios. I say this because the normal BA -XT uses the same T5 as the EF-AU. Anyone else confirm?

Given all the clutch cable problems, if the BA has a hydraulic clutch I would be tempted to try using an XE/D V8 pedal mechanism (or hack one) and a hydraulic master cylinder from same with a few mods to use hydraulics instead of cable.
Not that expensive to do really Nigel |

Different length input shaft on the BA boxes(standard or turbo) to the EL,
they are different boxes to the V8 also. IMO stick with a EL box as it WILL fit and there is no real reason to use a BA box unless you want a 6 speed. |

Go and get an au xr6 box. There surposed to be the strongest t5 that will fit in any falcon from xf to au.
Cheers

gear box has to be made for it it operates the pressure plate different cable pulls and hydraulic does it different you may adapts it some how but would not be straight change over.

i wasnt aware the 5 speed BA's had a hydraulic clutch......
if the BA's use the same T56 box as found in the mustangs and commodores, it's likely they've replaced the old style hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and clutch fork with the commodores combination throwout bearing/slave cylinder

T5 "Z" Spec is the name Mall Wood give to the gearbox they build,.
It's a changeover deal where they use exisgin bell housing but all new stronger internals. They rate there "Z" spec box at 330rwkw an that is what i am running. Works very nicely. Cost is approx $2,250 changover Clutch is also from them, single plate exotic material also rated for 330rwkw as a daily drive. I am selling my clutch (and maybe gearbox too) if your interested.
