Hey Guys,
In my EB im running KYB Heavy Duty Shocks, and King Super Low springs. The rear end of the car is extremely soft. ^jAsE^ has the same set up (except he's using Lovell's Super Low's) and has the same complaint, that the KYB's are just too soft on the rear. Also since swapping the shocks/springs out of the EB GLi (Taxi) into the EB Fairmont Ghia, the rear end is bottoming out on the chassis somewhere. I'm yet to jump under and have a look, but going over any reasonable bumps results in quite a large hit to the chassis. Does anyone have any comparisons or suggestions for alternatives for rear shocks? Drone suggested the Pedders, I was also thinking Whiteline. I definantly considered Koni, but if I put them in the rear, i'd be then tempted to put them in the front also (Read: this is my daily driver/economical run around).

You can go and get Koni's and you know they are going to be good. The only shock better is probably Bilstein. If you are going to get Pedders, get the SportsRyders, the comfort gas are just rebadged monroe's. I was also under the impression Whiteline use KYB as well but I'm not sure where the hell I read that. You get discount anyway lol.

well i got the same probalma as well ! kybs make the car bouncy as in the rear
must be that the shock piston is not in the optimum place and cannot work efectively? i need shorter shocks for sure

I run lovells and Gaberals but I had cheap springs before and found that the springs were soft . Mabe that is your problem as most shops sugest KYB and a freind has Lovells and KYB in there Comm Wagon and they say thr ride is hard .
Whitline is fitted in a freinds car EA sedan he bought the full kit with the upper diff arms and he reconds it is like it is on rail raod track but very harsh ride.

The Fairmont was running Monroe shocks and king springs (std height) when i purchased it. It also had nice thick sway bars.. I beleive it handled slightly better than the King Superlow/KYB Setup. I'm blaming the shocks at this point. The front is reasonably firm.. Its just the rear which is letting me down at the moment.
I may just bite the bullet and go Koni. I think they RRP ~$500 pair (rear), I can get them for closer to $380/pr. Quite a difference from $100 pair for KYB's 
Frank, I think you're spot on with the KYB's not performing well at superlow height. Darren, Both myself and ^jAsE^ (Dyno Day Winner) run the KYB shocks and have the same problem, despite him running Lovells, and me running Kings.

Not sure on the watts. But when I fitted the Kings S/Lows on the IRS AU. The rear really bounced around with a full tank of fuel with the factory shock's. I've left the front standed and fitted a pedder short sports shockers in the rear. The bouncing has stoppped but I find them very rough as they don't travel like the standed ghia one's but on the other hand the handeling around corners is fantastic now I've had konis on a XB GT and they worked well but cost is ridiculous now for a set.

if the rds are flat man it awesome but get some bumps in succesion and it liek it on cut springs!

I just fitted King Spring Lows with Monroe GT Gas (Which I had with stock suspension) and found them pretty good.
Then again I haven't got much to compare them too, at the moment I recon the handling has improved dramatically. ( not forgetting I have just fitted new 16 inch EL XR 8 Wheels with 225/50/16) You must think about your tyre/wheel combination when it comes to suspension and shocks. Also new Lower ball joints make a major difference in cornering. Opto's Rule Be A man.... Do as much work on your car as you can.... you save megabucks and appreciate the work more....

I found superlows with monroe GT shocks way to bouncey, Looking closing at the springs, the super low & the lows together, they are about the same height when out of the car, Just the super lows have a much thinner coil ..
Thats why I went back to lows instead of superlows .. P.S. anyone wanna buy a set of superlows? |

im telling u its the springs
my ride is firm and i have no problems with 5 ppl and going over things or corners with bumps and i never bottom out on the rear.. not soft at all! has to be the springs! |

Has anyone actually found out for sure which is a firmer spring, lovell vs king vs other.. ?
Id be v interested in knowing this..

I'm interested too, because I'm going to be getting springs and shocks soon - and everywhere I look there's vastly different opinions. Very hard to make a decision at the moment lol.

for the ride its great, and handling.. i mean i got sagging out if it but eh thats sorted i think now lol.. (no i didnt cut) there good if you intend to take weight .. |

I too think pedders are a very good spring.. Eibach or something like that is meant to be good, but expensive I assume.
