It would be pretty hard to change the diff centers over as you have to shim it properly if you want it to last. If your mates diff housing is still ok I would be changing the whole lot over. And you could still run your own brakes and axels if you wanted to.

to do it you need to remove the axles on your car. wheels off , then the disks there are 4 allen key bolts u need to undo through the hub. put the disk on backwards with 3 wheel nuts and use that as a puller to remove the axle then take the bolts holding the diff in out and pull it out install is reverse of removal graba gregorys book to help u

Done quite a few LSD center change overs, Mainly just the centers, but have changed ratios before,
Just remember when unbolting the crown wheel, that its a LEFT HAND THREAD bolt, so oppersite from undoing . Also, Align all the shims and match them up the way they came out, a black permantent texta is good for that . If you are changing the ratio, You need to have the matched pinon and gears for it . So, say if you have a 3.08:1 open wheeler, and you want to put in a 3:45:1LSD you can't just change the crownwheel, you have to have the pinon to match it too . The gears don't mix & match very well, thats when you start to get whining, And also, If the shims are not back in the right place, same thing happens . But just replacing the center it not to hard at all .. Just make everything the way it came out, and put it back together with the new center in, Oh, and remember to get LSD oil And another tip, Don't get to exicted about it all before you startit (like i did) , and forget to empty the old diff oil out first! Also, The diff oil smell with make you pass out! |

hmm, sounds like a prick of a job actually. might just rip the whole diff out of his car disc to disc chuck it in a trailer and take it to a diff joint or a mechanic and say put this in!
