Mike, Oz me too. mums ED had the same problem, had to really slam the shifter back into 1 for it to change down manually.

Yeah that pretty much describes it. I'm not sure about the selector thing though because it actually selects the gear as I already said. Could that still be the selector? |

I had a new auto installed last week and the guy mentioned another customer's car that was doing the same thing as you describe. I would think that it is new tranny time, but don't panic yet. Get it down to a trans shop and let them test drive it for diagnosis.

Just before I bought the car the previous owner had the transmission fully serviced and everything. I also got the receipts with it. Surely they would've noticed if the transmission was on its way out??

Well I took my car to Tas Driveline yesterday and without even looking at it they told me it was some clutch inside the transmission that was stuffed and it would cost about $1800 to fix and it would be really hard to find a second hand one for a v8. So guessing the people i bought the car off would've known about it seeming as they had the transmission serviced. . . Thinking I might get a second opinion first though and if it really will cost that much then I'll just have to put up with it.

Get a second opinion as my trans shop quoted $900 to replace a few broken clutchs and bands and full rebuild would cost $1800.
V8 boxes are hard to come by so i would get it rebuilt to last another 5-10 years. |

Agreed. Autos can be working perfectly one day and die the next without warning.
This happened to me a few weeks back- 4th began slipping out on the highway, the next day it lost second around town. This box had done only 140,000 (mainly city though), was serviced, driven gently and running two coolers. It just happens. Mike
