I was going to get my suspension done, just some new shocks, and I was wondering if I need new springs, I got a EL XR6 so I dont really want it any lower and just wondered if I also need to bother changing the springs?
Might put a caster cambeer kit in also an some new bushes were needed. The car puls to the left and virbrates the stering wheel over 8okm/hr. Also one front tyer is worn out on the outside sidewall only. Anyone know what causes this? |

No damage, except I do take roundabouts like I am at the clipsal 500, 2 wheels in the air!
Nah Only kidding, but how bout the springs, do they get softer with age? I might get one of those Suspensions safty cheaks from Pedders to cheak on bushes and pivot joints and control arms and stuff. |

Yes. Like anything else they fatigue over time. For example, the springs in the EB when I bought it were sagging so much that the superlows I replaced them with have better clearance over driveways & sit about the same when parked.

In my stock 96 Fairmont, I have no tow bar, so the car obviously sits higher at the rear. When my fuels low, going over sharp bumps makes the rear light and noisy. Like the rear bumper is rattling on the body or something. Just doesn't ride the sharp bumps well at all. But if I put 40 litres or more of fuel in the tank. The rear sits a bit lower and becomes quieter over those same bumps.
Whats the go there. All my rear suspension and shocks and springs and bushes are like 174,000 k's old. Will just getting new springs and shocks all around and getting them to make the car sit evenly at both ends fix this up? |

In a car of that age it is worthwhile doing a complete suspension upgrade, not to lower it if you don't want to, but most if not all of the bushes will be worn. Most oem bushes are rubber and as such get fatigued by oil, so if the car has ever leaked oil around the front end then that can make bushes go out. Nolothane is less succeptible than rubber, so it is a good replacement.
Middle priced shocks and good (kings) replacement coils will be worth the money spent, believe me, along with the bushes... Andrew
