Hi Folks,
Just toped up my power steering fluid today, before it occurred to me that the workshop probably put some basic DOT4 stuff in it, where I just grabbed what I had handy API-GL4 which is a fully synth fluid. Should I be worried about having mixed the two ? Should be flushing it out and re-filling it all with just one sort ? |

Firstly Dot4 is brake fluid.
API-GL4 is Auto Trans fluid, this is fine for power steering. However Ford suggest Mobilfluid 424 is most E-series.

Use 424 or equivalent. Also do a search on here using 'mobilfluid' .

Never mix different types of fluid. I did and it cost me a power steering pump.
My mechanic has also experimented with different fluids which wrecked power steering and brake seals within a week so he only goes with whats in the manufacturers handbook. Go with the manufacturers fluid or it could result in deteriorated O'rings and more trouble. |
