Hi guys. just wondering what discs i should get on my car. want to upgrade my standard AU1 brakes and have all the components bar discs and calipers. ill get some bendix pads as well but should i get drilled, slotted or drilled and slotted?

I suggest only slotted,as drilled ones are suseptable to cracking.

I've got drilled and dimpled on my el . Much better than standard obviously. One thing I've noticed is they still feel like my old brakes if I ease on the pedal slowly then press hard it doesn't stop like I'd want it to . But if I press the brakes hard to begin with it pulls up really good .

If you ues race type pads, then you will only glaze up your discs and pads, rendering them useless.

They are a step down from race spec pads . Which is why I think they work well with heavy braking, but not as well with normal braking . They guy said they are good for street use. They are qfm remsa pads

how many people have personally cracked drilled rotors ? the ones on my bf were cheapies and still far superior to the standard chewing gum cast stockers. Even replacing them every 12 months and having it stop properly would be better than replacing standard ones every 6months when they warp.

Definitely just go slotted if you're worried about it, just asking how many people have cracked rotors full stop on street cars (on the street)

cheers. would anyone of you guys know anything about the au1 upgrade? because all i need is the rotors and calipers so would i be able to get the calipers of a BA and put them on some RDA slotted discs? or is there lots of different sizes and s**t

Is glazing a bad thing ?? My rotors don't look glazed . They are shiney. Where as my old rotors were glazed . They had all marks and the rotor was a dull grey colour

AUI's are not a straight forward disc and calliper swap... It's still possible but it's only a straight swap with AUII onwards. See papa_smurfs threads I believe he's done the series I conversion or is at least privy to the details.

I swapped my BF discs for slotted and drilled when they got that bad they would shake drinks from my cup holders on big downhill runs (car had 85,000kms). Got them machined and put them on my AUII ute about 12months later (about 6 months ago). The cheap BF replacements have still outlasted the stock ones I put back on the lighter manual ute!

Any brake upgrade should start with removal of ford rotors. In my opinion Fords lucky they haven't had a class action against them for the primitive materials they decided to use. The geometry doesn't help either. Good brake package executed poorly.

yeah i have got a hold of the lower control arms, stub axels, sway bar and mounting brackets (if thats what your talking about). just need the rotors calipers and pads. Yeah the first thing papa smurf said to me was to change the brakes ahah

Awsome. You just about got it sorted then! Was a pretty good upgrade for my AUII.

In that case my advice is spend what you're comfortable spending and expect to get what you pay for, if you get any more it's a bonus hehe.

I was just saying for everyday use I don't think drilled rotors are necessarily a risk, some might even say it's overkill. Different story if you're hammering them, although that's what they were made for..... yet I'm happy to be proven wrong.

ive had the same thoughts. i dont think i will need drilled or slotted. plus i will feel a good difference in the upgrade in its self so may just get some standard discs.
