Hey guys,
Since I fitted my T5 to my falcon, i've noticed heaps of driveline slack. It is mainly obvious when shifting from 1st to 2nd and in low revs in 2nd. Its kinda like bunny hopping although i am using the clutch properly. I was thinking maybe diff or unis? Or could my t5 box even be a bit tired? It just feels like there is heaps of play in the driveline. Any help would be great !

haha i got the same problem in mine, only noticed it since i converted to manual. Its annoying isnt it!!
Apparently the fault was always there, but the autobox, 'disguises' it because of the smooth gear changes My car's in the diff shop at the moment, will get their opinion about it and let you know. |

Got the car back with new diff gears and the problem is still there, although the car feels a little tighter when decelerating.
I asked the bloke who fitted the gears about the problem and he didnt have any answers, and the bloke behind the desk said the spigot bush might have been left out when the T5 was fitted, but i know thats not the case Ive got a feeling its something to do with the clutch, cause the clunking can be heard from the front of the car sometimes. Sorry i cant help, and i'll just keep driving it till something gives lol |

I have similar problems. Def had them before the manual was in too, as the shiftkit produced similar clunks. Uni's or the diff is most likely.

With regards to the shift kit, when i had the auto and the shift kit turned on, the car would make a big hissing noise between the 1st & 2nd gear change, almost like a BOV.
Related problem, i dont know? |

Funny you mention that.... my dads EF Fairmont bloody freak makes that noise... i think its in all gears but mostly first and second makes the hissing/wheezing noise sorta sounds like a charger or something... or BOV i always asumed it was an Exhaust leak as the sound comes from near the cat... hmmm wonder if its an auto problem..

Funny thing is it still makes that whooshing sound with my manual box if i wind out 1st long enough and stab the clutch in to change gears.
Can only be heard now if a car is coming the other way at the same time and the sound 'echo's back. f**k strange, im hoping the uni or tailshaft isnt gonna snap or somthing.... |

i dont think that sound would be anything major like that.... maybe a hidden turbo.. yep sounds good to me. But im lost as to what it is.. ill stick to my exhaust leak theory.

apparenltly most manual falcons do it, the people that own them are just used to it. i felt massive driveline slackness when the T5 went into my fairmont cos the auto hid it, now im just used to it too haha
look at rear trailing arm bushes

Assuming there is no significant diff wear, but a diff is loose and clunky what kind of labour is required to pack it a bit tighter?

I have similar issues, though mine is a factory T5.
I get more of a clunk in the driveline...as well as a HUGE diff whine...which is LOUD, and is ALWAYS there...I guess a reco'd 3.45 LSD is around $1000? |

when I converted my old EA I had the same issues, turned out to be almost non existent rear trailing arm bushes. Got some exchange box section ones with urethane bushes and it fixed it up strait away.

I thaught the sound was suspension related initially..
Ive had a suspension shop tell me it wasnt suspension related Ive had a diff shop tell me its probably the suspension and ive had my regular mechanic tell me its neither.. lol My guess is its suspensiodifferenitgearunifalcon related...[/youtube]

Would rooted trailing arm bushes make a rattling sound in the rear suspension? Cause i have that sound as well lol.
When driving on bumpy road, sounds like crap rattling and rolling around in the boot, but theres nothing in there..... |
