lets say i have this friend who accidently drove for a bit with his handbrake on and cause he was stressed and the warning light wasnt on he didnt notice.
it smelt pretty bad ... my friend tells me, but apparently it still seems to stop the car from rolling in nuetral. obviously its a bit worn. but is there anything serious my mate needs to consider

i forget to put down the handbrake soo many times in my au, but just as every ford the handbrake does s**t until you pull it up 468clicks.
there shouldnt be much damage unless you can notice somthing is rong

I'd personly replace the rear rotors and pads and bleed rear brakelines due to the extreame heat off driving with the park brake on, but it also depends on how many K's you did with it on though.

Yeah id be interested to know how far your "friend" drove the vehicle. Plenty of people have done it and their brakes lived to tell the story.

If the 'friend' also happens to drive an NC Fairlane, then the handbrake is shoes inside the drum of the rear disc, and is operated by a cable. So the brake fluid that actually operates the rear foot brakes should be fine. Also, driving along with it on would cause the cable to stretch somewhat and wear down the shoes, since your not constantly applying pressure (like what you do with the normal foot brake by continuing to push on the pedal with your foot), you would probably find that the further you drove the more it wore and the less it was in effect. |

the ford hand brakes are s**t you nearlly pull your shoulder ou getting it to work so it dosnt roll back when you get out

The fluid will be fine and the rotors will also be fine but just check for any discolored (blue color) areas near where the actual brake pads make contact. All that may have to be done is the handbrake shoes adjusted or possibly replaced. Dont forget that the rears only provide about 30% of the braking force.

EA/NA-ED/NC handbrakes operate the calipers.

most likley just wore the rear pads down. Depends how far he drove, and how firm the handbrake was left applied

Ah, my apologies then, I assumed they'd have just been the same, but thinking about it now I'm pretty sure the rear pads are different between the two too. Ugly a** umbrella handbrake lever! |

well i spoke to my friend ..... hahahHA it was me all along. i only drove for maybe 1km max. so the handbrake actually usees the rear brake pads?
my breaks need to be done sooner or later anyway cheers
