Would you know if the trans cont module for the EB1 is different to the XR6 trans cont module? I will be fitting the XR6 ECU this week and wondering if I need to change the trans cont mod also.

im not 100% sure on that one??
if you put a xr6 ecu .. the auto module should still work ..
im just not sure if the engine ecu tells the auto module when to change gears or if it is the auto module that controles the shift points...

i was pretty sure that EA's had separate computers, and possibly early EB's but all smart lock ecu's controlled the transmission...i know all v8 e-series use a separate transmission computer.

just had a bit of a look. the ECU's for 6cyl EB II and on control Engine and Gearbox.
So, EA, EB I 6cyl and EB/ED/EF/EL 8cyl all had separate control module for the auto gear box.
hope this helps ;)

I am about to use an ED XR6 4.0 and transmission + XR6 ECU in the EB I what would I have to change to run the auto off the XR6 ECU instead of the EB I TCU?

thanks for the replies.

ebfairmont3.9 did a wiring change from an EA TCM to EL ECU, here's the pinouts which I suggested for him, and that he tested. The EBII/ED 60 pin ECU's should be the same as the EL ECU:

-------------------------EA TCM---------------------EL ECU
S1------------------------pin12 (Green/Black)--->pin51
S2------------------------pin27 (Green/White)--->pin52
S3------------------------pin26 (Green/Red)----->pin35
S4------------------------pin11(Green/Yellow)--->pin55
S5------------------------pin7 (Green)---------->pin38 ***********
S6------------------------pin13 (Yellow/Red)----->pin14
S7------------------------pin28 (Yellow/Green)-->pin11
Trans temp--------------pin1 (Blue/Yellow)----->pin42
Trans temp--------------pin5 (Blue/Orange)---->pin46*
Econ Lt-------------------pin14 (Green)---------->pin12+
Econ s/w-----------------pin18 (Green/Red)----->pin27
Gear select--------------pin17 (Violet)----------->pin30
Gear select--------------pin10 (Violet/White)---->pin46*
Speed Sensor-----------pin19 (White)----------->pin3

TCM pin 29 (Yellow) To ignition power ECU pin 5***************

yer EL ECU's are wired exactly like EBII/ED but use some of the other pins :P

Auto trans pins are the same (ECU) - the round connector on the transmission from memory have a couple of pins differently connected - not hard to figure out though.

Just wondering what the stars are for on your diagram EL ECU pin 38, pin 46 twice and pin 5.

The wiring info I was providing ebfairmont3.9 at that time wasn't totally accurate - being manuals what they are. I don't own an EA, so all I could provide was theory only.
So he needed to do some testing to find out the correct wires for the S5 solenoid, which is connected to 12v power and the other end is controlled by the ECU. The other solenoids are controlled by the ECU, and their returns go to earth.

I am in the process of doing this mod I have found pins 30, 3, on the ecu already being used, do I have to replace these pins or splice into them?
