yeah I second Data_mines advise, whiteline sway is the way to go. if you are really keen you can get an adjustable one, but you will only fiddle with it a bit find the correct setting and never worry about it again. If your going to do the front do the whole car.. do the job properly, don't ½ do it..

and yeah Rick_Deckard seriouldy get your gear checked. do you get any interesting clunks or banging from the front end? or does it just wander everwhere? don't stuff around with steering. get it fixed.

It's dangerous stuff. I know you can't exactly point an EF and it will be straight as, but the kind of corrections I have to make is just dangerous.

So I know that the EFs aren't perfect, but there is something much more sinister at play with my front steering now.


If it wanders really badly then something is very loose & needs attention like yesterday. There is a number of items that could cause the front end to feel loose. Worn bushes, bolts that have come loose, loose wheel bearings, steering rack worn out or even loose on the sub frame, steering intermediate shaft. Yada yada.

It wouldn't hurt to take it for a pedders 28point check, only $14, then if you want to or can fix it yourself you know what needs doing.

As for the nolathane or urathane bushes, yes they do make the front end a lot tighter. I noticed a huge improvement on my EB when i replaced all the lower bushes with urathane bushes. Only bushes i've not changed are the camber kits, not sure if they are rubber or urathane, but they are still in good shape.

If i had some $$ to play with, i'd upgrade my front sway bar, but i do have to say the front feel's pretty good with the urathane bushes, kings low's & pedders gas touring, which are half way between pedders std replacement shocks & pedders red's.

Hey guys, went to Bridgestone B-Select today and they found that most of the componets were fine and tight, but the tie-rod bushes were a bit worn. Also they think my camber is out too much on the front and recommend I install a kit.

They have a shim one and another sort (forget the name) which is a little more expensive, but adjustable just by shoving a bar through the wheel arch and adjustng it like that. $500 installed for the later, sound fair?

Also I hit Q Ford Springwood and apparantly I've got the last EL GT sway bar in Australian Ford supplies. $70. How is te whiteline stuff better exactly, and will the EL GT one give me a considerably improvement in the steering department?

What I also wanted to know is, what else should I do during this to tighten up the front and rear, that won't add to much to the cost already.

I remember someone mentioning a rear sway bar, or don't EFs have one?

lol... disco frank you have over 11,000 posts and don't know what a strut is? must just be a post whore or something...

a strut is a shock that has a coil spring mounted to it. So yes, a falcon does have a strut.

I do agree with you though - a strut brace is a waste. The upper arm brace would be much more benneficial.

I'm gonna say what every one has already said, and agree to getting your front end checked out. I'd put money down on the intermediate shaft worn, as well as the rack.

It could also be that the caster is to low - so a quality wheel alignment should fix your problems. I had the exact same problem as you and after fixing the wheel alignment (caster was +1.5 degrees, increased it to 4.5) and it made it heaps better.

Also, a wheel balance might be needed.

Puting in a strut brace is easier and cheaper than stitch-welding the whole front end. Who on here has built rally cars???? Rear wheel drive and Front wheel drive???
There's more to suspension than springs, shockies, and bushes.
How about unsprung weight, improving the ridgidity of the base shell for the suspension to mount to. Roll cages ( integrated ones ) also help heaps.
Drive-line geometery setup, for traction and handling.
There is heaps to know, hence there are Chassis specialists/engineers for this stuff, and I wouldn't know half of what they know.

I think that he, and like the rest of us thought as we read between the lines, is referring to a proper McPherson strut. Not the strut used on a Falcon which is, as you acknowledge, fundamentally different!

So I take it your admission is the reason for you installing a completely useless strut brace?

Or were you talked into it by the suspension gurus at Pedders?

No, I asked him to get me one. Heres one for you, take it you find an AU XR6 series 1, with say, 10K on it, and you find another one, but has 300K on it. You fit brand new springs, shocks and bushes to both.
You take each one for a thrash around a race track, which one would handle better??????????

The one with the least amount of K's on it. The body shells are tight with low K's. Why do you think the racing teams don't keep a car for long???
A brace is better than no brace.

Why did Ford delete the tower braces after the XP???? XR to XF ( 67 to 88) had no braces, but the Mustangs still had them after 66.
