Howdy.
well im about halfway to converting to manual, and someone tells me that i need to change the loom or something going to my 5 speed. I had a search but couldn't find anything specific to this part of the conversion? Im converting from 3spd to 5spd Donor car was an MPFI EA Spac with a 5 speed My car is an MPFI EA Fairmont Im using the Manual ECU. What wiring do i have to change?? I'm not really after 'change the red wire'... A detailed idea would be fantastic. Which bits to cut, what to join the cut wire to..and which bits i actually have to change and what not. A wiring diagram would be fantastic, but its probably a long shot. Thanks alot! Ken Also if anyone whos done the conversion is willing to add me on msn, just incase i run into a problem. That would be great. msn: x2dazibit@hotmail.com

hi
i think you will only have to change the loom that runs the gear box to the engine bay.. if you have the doner car just un plug and remove the loom and replace the auto loom with the manual one.. (the loom plugs should be the same from 3 speed auto to 5 speed manual) |

we stupidly cut the loom in half from the donor car, which was at a self service wreckers. I have the cut section which has all the joins from the gearbox, but no plug.

I think EAs had a "clutch switch". like a brake light switch, you'll also notice the 5sp box has 2 switches on it, a reverse light switch and a nuetral switch, for the ecu.
I'm just trying to remember.

The loom should be able to be manufactured using the existing auto loom, which IIRC will be a rectangular plug near no6 inlet runner. The later BTR 4 speed autos had an additional round plug, for the solenoids, but I don't think you'll have it, but it's not needed anyway if you do have it. I'm assuming your car started life as a factory 3 speed auto.
You'll need to join the starter relay wires (red/blue & black), these can be found on the auto inhibitor switch, and extend the two other wires for the reversing lights to go on the T5 reversing switch. You'll also need to run 2 wires for the g/box neutral switch. This goes between ECU pins 30 & 46, as does the clutch switch.
