Im just wondering if EA EB ED LSD diffs will bolt into my NF
if not would it be possible to swap there internals to make a LSD that will bolt on or if there is another way to achieve this i ask due to i have a m8 in town who has enough EA EB ED's to go around and i can most likely easily get a LSD from him for cheap and would a 9" diff be any better than a LSD as people clearly spend big $$ getting them and chasing them

The only difference between EA-D and EF-L diffs are the hand break set up. You just have to modify that and it bolts strait up.
There will be a tut on here somewhere telling you how to do it. |

(much better).and a decent pinion flange.. |

might have got the model right on the changover?
They may have run out of 2 pinion diffs earlier than they thought so yours got the first of the 4 pinion diffs but they still had early trailing arms left? Funny things like that ^^^ always seemed to happen with the e series models... Cheers, Tim

You can swap the internals yes... But be aware this requires the diff to be set up and re-shimed (1 thou of difference will decider between whether your gear eat each other or work correctly...) So unless you have all the sized shims, or access to them, the know how of what you doing (setting preloads, backlash, and gear rub pattern), and the tools like diff spreader and the special flange holding tools and that, its not really a backyard task... If you do go that way you may as well put a 3.45 ratio or higher in at the same time and get it all shimed to in one go... Not sure what a transmission would charge you for this... Depends how many goes it takes before they get the shims right I guess... A 9" diff is stronger... They are in high demand and expensive because they aren't all that common... And people making race cars, or more specifically drag cars want them for their bigger axles, stronger larger gears and stronger hemisphere (or spool in the case of a drag car)... They are bloody massive and heavy... I reckon unless you had mountains of grunt, the 9" would use a fair bit of engine power just to get it spinning being so heavy yeah? Wouldn't be best on a NA motor... I bet you'll break a transmission before you break a properly set up Borgwarner diff... The 8.8" diff isn't that bad... Cheers, Tim

like tim said, some do have the different flanges, i guess it comes down to the date built and build numbers..
either way when ever changing diffs try getting one from eb2 or later this save getting a mixed bag of ea and eb bits... |

In addition, the EB-ED diffs don't have the needed hand brake mounts/brackets etc. You will need to weld them on if you use an older diff.
Cheers BenJ
