Bearings in mine started to whine with probably just over 130rwkw (by whine I mean almost like a hollinger, lol)

Box itself was still crisp tho

Really are too many variables to put a single number on it. Things like the weight of the car, the torque (not power), the diff ratio and most of all driving style determine the life of the box. I wouldnt trust one behind any boosted or serious NA engine. If your prepared to granny it will still last though.

The EA gearboxes are relatively weak during the 1st to 2nd shift because of the larger difference between the gear ratios. This difference is closed up on the later e-series boxes and is even closer on the v8 boxes. Closer ratios means less 'shock' to the box during hard shifts.

Surprisingly, the ratio differences between the std T5's (I6/V8)are achieved by the input shaft gear/countergear combination. The countergears between boxes are nearly the same, bar the teeth count on the gear that meshes with the input shaft.
