I did a engine swap on the weekend and now even if you have the pedal flat to the floor it'll early shift at 3000rpm. it also won't kick down when you accelerate and if just cruising along under light throttle it will hold gears.
e.g won't go 1st-2nd till 30kms 2nd-3rd till 60 kms so if cruising at 50 it holds second like i'm some sick mad prick being a wanker and it's really annoying and i'm guessing not good for the auto. if you hold it flat and manual shift it up the gears it'll change as soon as the next gear is selected any ideas?

Just thinking - is this the EA? - is it a 3 speed? - sounds like you might not have the kickdown installed.
Or.. if its pre EB 2, one of the TPS's isnt connected Nigel |

My mates auto xr6 had it and if it was in economy mode it would drive like you have described. |

both my cars are 4 speed autos.
the TPS's are plugged in. there are two. i even tried swapping plugs over. still did it. seems funny it only started doin it once i swapped engines. i used the old manifold so the only thing changed was the engine itself

so i spoke to the guy at Fluid drive here in town and he reckons the auto has lost it's TPS reference. who know's how to back probe the TCM to see if it's getting a voltage reference from the TPS?

You would probably be better off to measure it directly from the TPS, I would think. If no one can tell you what it should be outputting then I'll look it up in the manual if you want mate. Or you could just try swapping it over? Might be easier than buggering around testing it, if you have one that's known to be okay that is :p

Actually the guy makes sense - there is a procedure to learn the TPS for the Autos. Something like start the car, leave it in neutral for a couple of mins, then stop the car, key in on, Hold throttle flat, and wait 2 mins...
.. but I know thats not it exactly. The procudure teaches the TCM the TPS values for open, and closed, and it can work from there. it is in the service manuals for the cars... |

Er - if you think you have changed nothing and your not listening for posibilities, why ask!.
Just making suggestions. I, like most of the members here have had more than my fair share of falcons (and their problems). Good luck! Cheers Nigel |

Your thinking inside the box. Your ECU and TCM are not that easy to predict.
Anyway - Im no longer watching the topic. Best of luck - I hope you can figure the problem out. Nigel |
