I just scored a 3.23 lsd out of an eb for a song. Am I going to have any forseable trouble putting it in? Any tips/link to a walkthrough? Maybe I would be better off putting just the centre in? Currently have a 3.08.
Thanks EDIT-Ok now i have to swap centres, the trailing arms are gone. Is it easy to swap the centres? Does anyone knowif the 3.23 was 28 or 25 spline i.e. am I gonna have to swap axles aswell?

Use the EB tailshaft.....and you'll need to make some spacers for the lower trailing arms. The bushes in the EA lower trailing arms are narrower than the EB/ED ones.

s**t haha! I was just out there having a look at it and thats what i thought and I can't believe how different my drive shaft is! Could I use the trailing arms off the EB? They're still up there for me to grab, so is the drive shaft thank f**k.
What do you all reckon about swapping the centres being easier to do than this?

not sure bout swappin the centers, if your not experienced i wouldn't recommend it if it's an lsd, they have to be shimmed and all sorts of shyte.
i just changed the tailshaft in mine, for one reason or another the diff union was different and the trailing arms the same (go ford for consistancy!), from the stupid seat arranement to the flange style. more reliable engineering wise i would imagine. i've heard of the spacers before and i'm pretty sure you can't just change the arms to because the chasis mounts are different pitch aswell. short of that you could cut the two sets in half, mix n' match then re-attatch. would be ok aslong as you know how to put down a decent weld. properly thought out spacers should do the job though.

Thanks for the replies! Ok stick the whole thing in it is! Yeah the newer drive shafts look much more reliable. I'll go grab that.
What should I make the spacers out of? Should be easy enough to get the measurements, just fill in the gap to the nearest milimetre. Don't have a welder so hybrid arm not an option...

will need a lathe to make bushes (spacers) acurately, catch 22 lol
you would want the bushes to be mild steel i would imagine, while i'd be inclined to make them out of ally, it's best to keep the compositions the same, otherwise you might be introducing parts that are prone to premature wear. another alternative is to cut the brackets on the diff off (either inner or outer) and move to where necessary but since you don't have a welder thats useless information lol

or you can use the eb lower arms..
but you will need to grind of the 10mm or so spacers that are tack welded to the body where the lower arms mount. thats what i did when i put the ed diff in my ea.. |

Yeah latheless i am...
Troyman I just saw your post saying exactly that and decided to stop thread trawling for answers right there. Seems to me the best way to go will be to go get the arms and grind those redundant spacers off so as to fit them up, no angle problem as mentioned above? And I'll get the better looking drive shaft on there too. Thanks for all the help guys, have been racking my brain over what to do, good to know methods that have been tried and proven aye.

Seconded!
Are the axles, gears and centre gonna fit in my EA housing?? Maybe I'm just being lazy and need to rip the lower arms out of another car. Just not sure sbout the grinding, will have to make some measurements.

Just not sure sbout the grinding, will have to make some measurements. The EBII housing has an oil drain in it, and the EA doesn't. I fitted the EBII housing, and put my EA LSD centre in, with the EBII gears and used the EA axles. So i got the EBII ratio of 3.27......down from the EA ratio of 2.92.
