Im probably wrong, but it feels like my 4 speed auto in me series 2 EB has 5 gears...when im cruising in 4th gear, it feels like it goes into another gear, with the revs dropping even lower but the speed remaining the same...am i tripping or what....

naa yourre not tripping.

thats when the torque converter locks up around the 100kay mark or so

Yeah thats right, torque converter, I find mine doesn't lock up unless i'm doing over 90, but driving my mates EF his locks up around 70.

as far as i remember, it should do it in 3rd and 4th, and at about 80kays or so.. could be different between eb/eb2-ed/ef/el tho...

but yeh... its why when you're at speed why it doesnt feel as slushy, and why you get such good economy..
