hi, new here but just wanted to pass on some info.
i have a EB series 2 fairmont v8 wagon. ( mustang windsor 5.0 with BTR ) the tranny was intermitantly jumping into limp mode, then eventually stayed in limp mode. i read all the various forum topics, and did the suggested things- changed fluid and filter 'reset' computer by draining power checked tranny fuse took tranny fuse out and put in again carefully cleaned and checked all connections on tranny wireing loom / to tranny replaced neutral sensor on side of tranny ( speedo works, so didnt do anything in that regard ) checked earth connections and even created some extra earth leads from battery to body / engine. All of the above were fair maintance things, but none fixed the problem. a mechanic connected a testing device, but it said all was good. the dude at the local wreckers advised to try replacing the transmission control computer. then it all made sense, the mechanic disconnected the computer wires to do the tranny test, so the computer itself was not tested. so i got a tranny control computer from the wreckers ( from a EB 6 cylinder, cost $30 ) plugged it in, and now i have an operational transmission !!! sorry about the long story, but if you have similar 'limp mode' problems, try changing control computers, before replacing the tranny ! |
