G'day, I went to look at an EB that's for sale today. It was pretty good except for one problem:
Whenever the wheel is turned there's some vibration, it's not notable or not happening at some speed. The guy said that when he got the car it had very little or no power steering fluid in it and he never bothered about filling it up.. I've never heard of a lack of fluid causing vibrations? Also at low and high speeds, and even when the car isn't moving it's very easy to turn the wheels. Like it's got full power assistance, which it wouldn't have if there wasn't any / enough fluid.. If there wasn't vibration you wouldn't know there was a problem. Any ideas one what the problem may be? I'd like to have a rough idea of what it'll potentially cost me before I go buying a "cheap and reliable" daily Luke

Well actually yes, it does idle really low sometimes, it dips down to about ~400rpm sometimes.. Its idle speed goes up and down, but doesn't do it all the time..
I reckon it might be a goer

i got plenty of fluid in mine and it still does it on and off on occasions but going to serp setup soon maybe that will fix it? either that or P/S fluid maybe old and need a flush?

The pump could well be screwed, apparently it's been run without the recommended fluid level, which may be running the pump dry.. Although it felt like it still had full power assistance, so it couldn't have been dry.

I've had a wobble, only when the wheels were returning to centre, that felt like steering but turned out to be wheel balance.

My ED does that when going fast around corners, but when slow it doesn't and there is nothing wrong with the rack or pump. The wheel alignment is set up for handling corners too....has a bit to do with it now.

Most likely there is air in the system. In an EA i had we fixed the judder by putting a vacuum on the steering pump and turning from lock to lock several times. that way any trapped air is encouraged to leave.

My eb1 does this occasionally. Usually after I've driven it a bit.
When I park and its doing it I just go full lock left and right and then it stops. Need new fluid me thinks. |

There's a few possibilities to work through.. just get a secondhand pump. fit it. good belt. or new one. and you loose most the fluid when you change the pump. then just top it up and block the return line port on the pump and put the return line into a container and start. keep topping up until clean fluid starts running out. of course turn lock to lock. once clean re-fit return line and your done
