G'day all,
I've just purchased an EBII country car, with 190kms on the clock. The suspension is a little squeaky.. Is this a common occurence with this model? Or would it be the dusty country environment that has dried all the rubbers out? If there are any particular 'squeaky prone' areas/rubbers, please let me know, and I'll squirt them with a little WD40! Cheers |

my front left spring squeaks but only because i smashed into a gutter at 90 ks
have you hit into anything?

Very common - Dust in all kinds of places especially the struts.
See if there is any nolothane in there - it may need a clean/regrease. My Car is squeaking, but im not worried as I know Im about to do the struts |

the rear in the e-series are known to squeak give it a good clean and then spray wd40 around the suspension areas..

I was going to say...
If the rear is squeaking, then look at the lower shock mounts. Tighten them up, then tighten them again (now they are f..kn tight). Then tighten them again (v.f.t.) Thats often a problem. |

Okay.. The squeaky-rear has been rectifiedwith a little WD40 around the suspension areas..
Now that the rear is quiet, I have noticed that the front is quite noisy too! I sprayed some WD40 on every suspension part I could see in the front end, although the squeak is still there! It only occurs over substantial bumps.. Just to clarify the basics - It's not the brakes or bearings, definitely suspension-related, as the squeak occurs when pressing down on both front guards.. Any help? It's rather annoying and embarassing when driving over speeds-through crowded car parks! Haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks guys. |

Sounds like it could be the sway bar "d"s at the front - or the shock itself.

If you've got noise in the front suspension, also try greasing the strut piston rods. Just remove the castle nuts & rubber spacer to apply the grease. I used to get lots of noise going over road humps because of the piston rods rubbing on the (teflon?) bushes. Oil and WD40 only stops it temporarily.

Hmmm.. I don't know all that much about suspension components.. You mean the three nuts at the top of the strut assembly, under the bonnet? If so, I'm assuming I'll have to habce the car fully jacked up, right? Regards. |

I'm just looking at the Gregory's repair manual to describe this properly.
The 3 nuts you're referring to belong to the 'mounting', which is inside the shock tower. Don't undo them. The shock absorber piston rod, nut, washer & bush is in between them. You can use a shifter, or vice grips, to stop the piston rod rotating. Then use a ring spanner to loosen & remove the nyloc castle nut (I think it's a 15mm spanner you need). No need to remove the suspension unit. Remove large washer(s) and rubber bush & apply a small amount of grease to the piston rod. Just use your thumb to push the grease into the gap between the bush & rod. Then reassemble. Hope this solves your problem.

G'day from experience all the way back to XW-XY fords have a prob with upper & Lower wishbone rubbers squeaking.
The Cortinas were a shocker also. My EL did it as well as the wifes EA, all good with BA so far. I might be wrong but WD40 will only help for awhile & if you live in country like I do, than dirt & grim will stick to WD40 & grease is even better at attracting dirt! I changed all upper & lower bushes with urathane rubbers & no more probs on our EA.

just read an aritcle in street fords about something similair to ya problem basiclly to cut a long story short check ya hand brake and brake mechinisms in the rear.

Often bushes only squeak when worn. Unworn bushes maintain full contact with their constraints and simply flex, whereas worn bushes being smaller can rub against their constraints.
The front radius rod bushes ought to be looked at. If you remove the front upper shock nut, do not jack up the vehicle !!CAUTION!! I have an EBII with 220km and i checked my trailing arm bushes recently by flexing them with a bar, and the upper rear bushes seem worn. If you tighten components do it while the vehicle is resting on the wheels at normal height, otherwise you can overwork bushes. When you do up the bolt it locks the inner steel tube against the housing, and thereafter any oscillation torques the bush.

Ive got front squeeks like mad too. if she is cold then its good for about 15 minutes of noise, until things warm up. Usualy at its loudest when moving slowly through large groups of people.
Happens when braking and cornering sounds like a pirate ship. basically any time the front suspension goes into compression. my guess is new bushes.
