Hi Can someone help me. I was driving to work tonight and my economy light on the dash started to flash. I flicked the econ switch to off and it was still flashing. Has this happened to anybody before and if so what does it mean. Your help is much appreciated. My car is a 95 ef futura withh 156000km. Thanks...

get a auto trans service kit and change the oil, i think the flashing light means your oil has fried??

Thanks GT-P I will give that a go and see how it goes. It has been a while since I have given my beast a trans service.

yeah means the trans has overheated. Replacing the fluid is just a bandaid fix. You'll need to source the problem and get it fixed

Drove the car home this morning. The light was flashing for a few minutes but after I gave it a boot full a couple of times the light stopped flashing and did not flash all the way home for about 12 kms. I will have to keep a close watch on it.

Yeah that's when the trans temp link is registering too high a value IIRC.
Either the sensor is stuffed or the box is overheating. EEC will more than likely be pulling some power out of that engine as a result.

I have also noticed that in the last couple of days that the thermo fans cut in and out more regulary even when the motor is cold on first startup. During driving even in hot weather the gauge rarely gets over the quarter mark. Could this thing with the thermo fans be coincidental or has it something to do with the trans maybe overheating?

Well spotted Yeah if trans temp is too high for the ECU's liking, it will usually run both thermos flat out.

Well I bought a new gasket and filter and did the service myself on nightshift so I could use the 3 ton forklift to lift the car up. All went well there wasn't too much in terms of metal filings in the pan. Topped it up with new oil. Light does not flash any more but thermo fans Are still coming on when the car is dead cold and stays on all the time. Just a side note My harmonic balancer decided it had enough that night and fell off leaving me a long time to travel about 5 km to get home... Cost me $250 for a mobile mech. They say it usually comes in threes....

You were standing under your car, held up by a forklift!
It might be too late for your trans, but fitting a trans cooler will prevent it from overheating.

Is it hard to fit a trans cooler? I thought it already had one considering the thermo fans cut in and it still does not explain why the fans come on straight away even when the car has not been driven for more than 48hrs. The transmission is as smooth as it ever was. Could it be a faulty sensor ?

When the A/C is on, the fans are on at more speed than normal. Turn the A/C off, and see if the fans switch off.
Did you or do you have a Honda VFR800 bike.????
