HI GUYS, IVE GOT A 94 ED FAIRMONT 5.0 AUTO, PROBLEM IS IT STARTED SLIPPING MILDLY IN SECOND GEAR WHEN WARM, I TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC WHO ADJUSTED BANDS HE RECKONED TO THE WORKSHOP MANUAL SPECS, & NOW IT TAKES FOREVER TO CHANGE GEAR, NO KIDDING IT TAKES FOREVER!! BEFORE I TOOK MY CAR TO THIS WOMBLE ALL OTHER GEARS & SHIFTING WAS FINE, FLUID WAS CLEAN & RED, CARS JUST CLOCKED UP 200,000KM WITHOUT A HARD TIME, ANYONE OUT THERE GOT ANY IDEAS ON WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

Is the fliud level correct?????
Is the power/economy switch in economy????
The gear position switch might be faulty??????

Re-adjust the front band (It's the adjustment on the passenger side of the box)

Crack the outer lock nut, Screw the centre adjuster in till it is firm, then back it off 2.5 turns, re-tighten the outer locknut.

See how it goes then...

cheers guys, fluid level is correct, switch is in eco mode, will try the band adjustment.

FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO RE-ADJUST BANDS AS SUGGESTED & STILL NO GOOD, I THINK IM UP FOR A BIG BILL. :(

Hi mate

it could be the pressure solenoid in the valve body. sometimes if the solenoid does not supply the right about of hydraulic pressure to band it will case a delayed gear change and case it to thump in to gear when it dose change I think there worth about 450 bucks brand new.

Just a thoght.
