Hey all, anyone got pics of the EF/L shifter, I know theyre quite diff looking to the earlier.
I have an ED one but i'll need to modify it to make it work with the EF boot etc, Fraud want $65 for a new EF one though.. Anyone got an opinion on if the later ones feel much nicer to shift? it looks it. Lastly someone mentioned an Au MOMO XR knob being a nice one. Do these come from Ford? Sounds like the kinda thing they would charge me my first born for... Jeez all the shifters at places like autobahn are rice though, and besides I like to see a H pattern. More pics of things ya have the better..

shorten your ed one dude, they look a lot better like that.
I have one that was shortened and it is the shiznit. How do you post up pics??? photobucket or something along those lines?

you can attach pics directly into your posts..
considered shortening it, more concerned with the overal angle of it tho, ie the EF one seems closer to reach and more straight up. There was a post I saw recently which had a pic of shortened shift levers (not short shifters) for sale on ebay or something but I cannot seem to find it.

mine is shortened, the ea one was a bit too high and kept popping the vinyl boot out of the center console

How would you go about shortening a standard one? By how much etc?
Or can you just buy a shortened rod for them? |

Some people were talking about cutting, drilling and tapping them out..
I saw someone else say they just cut and weld, but the former is probably stronger..

My mate has a BA shifter in his EB XR6, looks good and is shorter then the stock one.
When my manual goes in i'm, doing the same as him and it seems to be the go over shortening.

if you can cut and weld, measure the height you want and find the right height in the car, you can then cut the shifter to size
mine is about 3/4 the size of a normal one I would say, it has a little kick back in it so the stick sort of sits back towards the driver. malakai, what does TQE stand for? tickford quality experience? Ps saw kelvin the other day in his brock ea too. Next cruise you come on, get me to show you my stick LOL Nah jokes aside, i can show you a look and you'll get the idea. works well I reckon.

Three quarter engine The ED shifters have one angle, right at the bottom of the stick. EF/EL have 2 angles to make a kink right in the middle. EF/EL are easier to shorten, just tap the thread longer and cut a bit off (can take about 20mm of this way) ED shifters actually increase in diameter, so you either have to cut and weld, or lathe them down. Interestingly, the EL GT's use an ED shifter modified to fit the EL GT gearknob

TQE = Three Quarter Engine
.. as in having six cylinders as opposed to a V8 which is an FQE Ahh the Brock EA, we must finish tuning that thing one day. I'm thinking about getting a billet short shifter with positive stops. But I'm not sure how long I will stick with the T5 before throwing a T56 in the car and getting a short shifter for that. Decisions... decisions... Probably a while though so the short shifter might be the go in the mean time. Somebody must make shorter sticks for the T5 somewhere... |

Anyone got word on how the AU and BA shifters compare to the EF/L.. being more common components my guess is ford will let them go cheaper..
