So I guess this is now cactus? It's the lower steering column on my ed. Do these have a replaceable bearing? I have been guilty of keeping the spray up to it but it's never come out like this.
Cheers for your input.

Hi, my understanding is there is no replacement bearing HOWEVER the more mature guru's here may be able to point you in the correct direction........

I don't think there is a replacement part. im getting mine looked at by a suspension shop. got fixed once and lasted a week and now he has put some clamps around it so it doesn't come out(temp fix). he is working on a custom setup, ill let u know how it all goes for a ed v8

You pretty much have to change to column for the easiest fix.

I recondition the columns with a new better bearing.....the original is like it's made of tin.
One of the problems of them being damaged is by people dropping the column down without unbolting it from the floor.....especially when a/c work is being done.
If the dash has to come out, take the whole column out....only takes about 10 mins to remove it completely......the intermediate steering shaft only goes on one way.....and the bolt for it must be totally removed to get the steering shaft out.

mine just feels like it gets stiffer so as you turn wheel its easy then hard then easy and loses self centering sometimes if youre in the hard bit.

When it gets stiffer as you turn, it is because it's behaving like a sprag.....like in a Torque Converter, or an auto tranny.....or a starter clutch in a motorbike.....slips one way, locks up the other way.
