The steering on my ED becomes noisy when approaching full lock. It is like a chattering noise but I am unsure how I can fix it or what it could be. I checked the power steering fluid straight away and thats perfect. There are no power steering leaks, The steering is smooth from lock to lock....Just the chattering noise.
Any ideas on what it could be & how to fix it?
Thanks.

I'm not possitive but it seems like a seal may be bypassing in the rack. does it happen on one lock or both?

Usually on the right lock but sometimes on both. It sounds like it is dry. Perhaps a bit of lube may be required to fix the noise?

If it were seals bypassing it's possible they could be bypassing both ways but unlikely. maybe get ur missus under there to have a listen to exactly where it's coming from.

Sounds like it may have air in the rack. Get someone to turn the wheel from lock to lock whilst the car is running and check the resovoir. Is it airating the fluid? Vehicle has to be loaded. A sure sign if the rack is cactus.

A Bit of Info:

I know on the later model falcons (BA onwards), they run pressurised p/steering resovoirs. The idea is that the only time you can check or top up the level is when the car is dead cold. As soon as you open the resovoir when the car is slightly warm and the system is pressurised the cars steering will shudder like s**t. but when you let it cool done for a few hours, it will be fine.
