Hi all...
Not sure if anyone knows what I need help with but anyway... I am going to run an EL column... And I notice the intermediate shaft that connects to the rack has an entirely different amount of splines meaning it will not connect to the ED rack... If I run an EL rack this will fix my problem... Now the big question is will an EL rack bolt to the ED K frame (or whatever it is that it bolts to)? And are they hard to swap out (never paid attention as to how or where it mounts up to). Is there any other differences that people are aware of? Thanks, Tim

There is another way around this.
You can split the steering column in two. There is a circlip that releases the top adjustable part from the column. Remove the ED top and put the EL top on the ED bottom. Banarcus did this when he did the EL interior conversion in his ED Fairy Wagon. Cheers BenJ

Ben,
Yeah I looked at this for ages, but I am unfamiliar with what's inside these and as such did wan't to go too far... The EL one I have seems to have separate sections and the entire things slides in an out... The (maybe EA?) one I have doesn't do this, so I am unsure how it comes apart (if at all)... Maybe the ED slides like the EL one? Do the bearings, etc remain in place and which end comes out of where? the shaft pulls out the steering wheel end, or the other shaft pulls out the bum of it? Cheers, Tim

haha...
You are the man Ben... What you said works a treat... once you work out how the ED one comes to bits (we cut the bottom off the outer to get the seal out) then it slides out... You have to nic the 4 spot welds and slide the re-inforcer for the bit where it slides in and out to the EL bottom bush on the ED bottom section (as the universal doesn't remove) and slide it back on, line it up and 4 spot welds again and you'de never know it was apart... Looks a million bucks... And Ben while your reading this, that cruise cable was no worries either... We murdered the EL cable, took the plastic thing off that locks into the cruise module, when to the bike shop and bought a 1.6m new inner cable for 2 bucks (bargain). The ED actuator end pulls off the cable easily, enlarged the hole in the El end and pressed it on the ED cable (interference fit) cut one soldered thing of the new inner and slid it in, it locks into the EL cam and fits one, just gotta make some crimp thing for the other end to grab the ball now and it looks just like an ED cruise set up, would never know the difference... I'll post photos in my build thread maybe tomorrow... Cheers for the help mate... Regards, Tim
