hi there,

I just put in ed xr6 diff into my ea
took it for test drive to make sure everything is ok..
BUT when you do a hard launch and hard change to second the tailshaft flange hits the floor..
i have checked the bushes and they are ok..

WHY ?????????????

ive noticed that the diff has two sets of holes for the upper arms..
the arms are bolted in the lower holes, would this make a difference???

note: the ford workshop manual states that the arm should be in the lower holes on xr8 sprint only...

also i have used a alloy tailshaft from ef/el would it make any difference to performance or strength ?????

can anyone tell me why some tailshafts have a balancer/dampner on the
front of the shaft??

any help would be good.... :)

ef/el tailshafts are weaker then the older eseries, hence the 180km/h speed limit, because they can break at anything over that. Tickford tail shafts have the balancer to stop them breaking at speeds above 180, although i think they may still be restricted, not too sure.

ok cool
the alloy tailshaft i got has the balancer on the front of it..

but my main concern is the tailshaft flange hitting the floor on hard acceleration..

hey man you said you used an ef tailshaft, now the ef tailshaft (standard steel) is different to the ea one, I have two in the garage. all the difference was the universal joint assy where the tailshaft bolts onto the diffwere different between the two models. Anyone know how to stick pics up on here? havent seen the alloy tailshafts on any efs except the tickford ones.

i used a ef/el xr8 tailshaft because i put a ed xr6 diff which has different flange to the ea..

what is pissing me off is the stupid alloy tailshaft is rubbing on the floor.
did the ef have a larger trans tunnel????
so i might have to use a std steel eb or ed shaft..

measure up the different flange sizes. thats what i was meaning bout the sizes. some of the ef/l falcons and later have got i think balancers up the transmission end of the tailshaft too, are they any good.
oh you were saying about the suspension mounting holes for the sprint, have you tried that? might be worth a try

OK
after trying different tailshafts. and changing mounting holes. and putting nolathane bushes with the tailshaft still bumping the floor.
ive put the alloy ef xr8 tailshaft with the balancer back on the car

ive also got the big hammer out and hammered the floor up about 5mm which seems to have done the trick (it sounds bodgy but it worked)
otherwise so far so good..

thanks to the people who replied with ideas ... :)

hi

well after all that mucking around the diff has died..
i got the diff from ford pro at smithfield they are a pack of
f**k..it turns out the diff was only a 3.27when it was supposed to be a 3.45 after only 100 kms the pinion gears have failed . the diff was noisy from the begining.
anyway they said if any thing went wrong they will exchange it
but now they say they dont have a replacment .
so i said to them they can give me a ef or el diff as a exchange but they said no we dont have any at the moment.
i got a mate to ring up and ask if they had a diff and they said yea no wories..
so i called them back and because i decieved them by getting a mate to call they are not happy but they still dont want to give me a replacement..
saying i have to wait untill a replacement comes allong ...long story short .. they suck they have no idea about there own cars.
im verry p****d off about it .... :x
