g'day

I'm half way through planning my engine build and have struck a problem.
The T5 gearbox i have is out of an ed xr8, nothing wrong with that but i'm planning to connect it to a 6 cylinder. I'm led to believe that the 6 cylinder and v8 input shafts on the boxs are different lengths.

Can i use the input shaft from a 6 cylinder box and put it straight into the v8 gearbox?
If i can change them over how hard is it/expensive to do so.

Cheers

the V8 and the 6 box will interchange. you wont need to change anything to bolt it in.

I was led to believe that they are had a different length input shaft. (V8 Longer than I6). I know a few people who have used I6 T5's in there V8's and they got the input shaft lengthened so that it would fit.

I know they also have different gear ratio's between the t5 in the I6 and the V8

here is the link to my similar question on here

& a similar question on fordforums

turns out they are different & the input shafts cannot be interchanged.
'special' hybrid input shafts can be purchased/fabricated but read for yourself.

What about bellhousings? I assume these would be different?

how bout swapping it with someone who has an i6 t5 and wants a v8 t5, with a cash adjustment. i paid $1600 for my conversion and all parts were used. the i6 equivalent goes for $750-800 from an ea. you would make a profit, just make sure you get one from an eb2 or newer (stronger, more reliable).

Yeah - bell housings are different!!

Maybe darren meant to say that they will NOT interchange, and just left the "not" out...

Thanks guys
Thats what i thought.
I might do the swap/sell thing.
The box has been fully rebuilt to standard specification. Hasn't had any oil in it as yet.
Its worth a bit of cash.

Cheers
