hi all got myself a ef fairmont auto here, been great driving it however the gearbox has been kinda slipping lately, like when I reverse brake and the put in d real quick the car revs and then chucks itself into gear roughly, and also the gear lever wobbles from left to right and isn't a smooth process moving gears,

car has done just under 290,000kms etc

thanks

get the transmission serviced if you havent done it in a long time, they hate old transmission fluid that causes sliping and harsh changes to a certain point

your shift moving side to side is just stuffed bushes in the shift, cheap to replace at around $8 for the 2 bushes.

the gearbox not going straight into gear could be its just low on fluid?

The BTR autos are very sensitive to low fluid level, and will slip just like you describe if it's the slightest bit low. Throw 500mls of fluid down the transmission dipstick tube and see if that fixes it - it did with my EF.
