Hi all,

I'm just about to buy a Manual box that came from an EF, it's just the box, nothing else, no clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, etc, etc

I've got an EB in the back yard with a seized engine and an almost rooted gearbox and am wondering if I would be able to use the EF box (to put into my current car, an EF) and grab the rest of the little bits and pieces off the EB the make up a complete conversion kit. The only bits I can think of that I'll need to buy are

-Clutch Assembly Kit
-6 new cluthch bolts from Ford
-Flywheel from wreckers and have it machined
-6 new flywheel bolts from Ford
-Manual ECU around somewhere

Does that all sound about right? Will I be able to make up a complete kit with the bits and pieces off my EB (earlier series T5)?

Really appreicate any advice and help you guys can give me!

Thanks!

Link below will help you with what you need, along with a resistor trick to use the auto ECU until you can find/afford a manual one

http://www.fordmods.com/forums/auto-to- ... 42420.html

And yes you can use gearbox, clutch cable, bellhousing, gearbox crossmember etc from earlier eseries

New clutch cable recommended though

You will also need a new spigot bearing and the pedal box from the EB won't bolt up to the EF without some modifications to the mounting points. You can use the clutch pedal off the EB on the EF auto pedal box if you get the Mal Wood pint kit. I'd also recommend a new clutch cable and clevis with bushes (attaches to the clutch pedal) since you are getting a new clutch.

You will also need a gear boot for an EF. So really the only things you'd end up using from the EB would be the bellhousing, throwout fork and damper, and the dust cover.

Thanks heaps guys!

One other thing, the frieght to ship something like this interstate is leterially up around the $400 mark :( although the box has been fully rebuilt with new everything - how much would it come for a rebuild like that? The box is $800 and the freight will be at least $400 so that's $1200 for a brand new T5. Would I be better off just trying to pick one up in my area and paying for it to be rebuilt?

maybe go buy an el-cheapo T5 from the wreckers, and drive up and see Mal Wood Auto, he does fully reconditioned T5's for $1500 on a changeover basis

Ok so this is what I got down on the list of stuff I need (any help much appreicated):

TO BUY NEW

-Clutch Assembly Kit
-6 new cluthch bolts from Ford
-6 new flywheel bolts from Ford
-Mal Wood Pint Kit (if I use the Auto pedal box)
-Spigot Bearing
-Clutch Cable
-Clevis with Bushes

TO BUY SECOND-HAND

-Manual ECU
-Flywheel and have it machined
-EF Gear Boot

TO GET OFF EB

-Bellhousing
-8 Bolts
-Throwout Bearing (would I be better off buying a new one of these?)
-Clutch Fork
-Rubber Damper Hook
-Dust Cover
-Manual Pedal Box
-2 Sandwich Plates
-Crossmember

Ok does that sound about right to you guys? Anything else I'd need or am I good to go?

Thanks for all replies in advance guys!

That sounds right. You will probably find that your new clutch kit will come with a throwout bearing anyway, I've done clutches in e-series a few times and they always come with a new bearing. If for some reason it doesn't I would suggest getting a new one anyway.

Looks like you have everything sussed out though, good stuff. Are you going to be doing the conversion yourself ?

Mate I have searched and searched and searched and I seriously can not really find any decent shipping companies :?

Lucky the fella who I'm buying it off knew which corners of the web to search in and finalised the P&H @ $70 which I was stoked at!

What bloody phrase do I have to Google to find some decent shipping companies??

Sweeet :) Yep me and a mate who was an apprentice mecanhic for close to 2 years. We should get by alright on the knowledge side of things but I dunno about the parts side of the equasion, we dont have any specific car equiptment except for a few trolley jacks and some ramps (which my car wont fit on anyway :?) ... is there anything specific we'll need to actually get the box in you reckon?

The Heavy Duty valeo clutch kit on ebay is good value for money @ $235, and the clutch isnt too firm.

Comes with a thrust/throwout bearing, and he supplies a spigot bearing for $8 extra if requested

EDIT: Dont forget the rear main seal, as these have a tendency to leak over time, and you'll have access while the gearbox is out anyway

jacks, stands, ramps and a f**k of extension bars.

get the car HIGH - I did mine by myself with the car no more than 40-45cm off the ground cause the stands were maxed out - Never again. Had to lift the frigging box up onto the jack while lying on my back under the car cause it wasn't hight enough to fit under on the jack.
