Hi,
Im having an issue with my EF Fairmont Sedan, It makes this continuous "clunking" sound out of the left rear wheel/suspension, It happens over even slight corrugations in the road. I have replaced the shock absorbers on both sides, replaced the rear rotors, discs, pads and Ive just had it checked out on a major service and they had no idea what is making the noise. Has anyone ever had this problem before? any help would be great. |

Car jack loose in the spare wheel well?
See if you can get a friend willing enough to curl up in the boot as you go for a drive to see if he can pin point the sound better. |

Its either something in your boot, so remove it all and go for a drive, or the lower shock mount bolt is loose.
You need to do them up stupidly tight to remove the noise. |

i reckon the lower shock mount bolt might be the issue. we tightened them to the manual recommendations, but that might be for the factory shocks or just completely wrong?
thanks for the help. |

Did you tighten them while on the ground? And, maybe the rubber cushions on the springs (top and bottom) may have gone a little slack?

Maybe upper or lower rear control arm bushes. With handbrake on rock the car back and forth by turning back wheel on level ground back and forth. If there is a clunk its the bushes in one of the rear control arms. This test twists the diff up and down applying pressure to the control arm bushes. The top ones are normally the first to go.
