im pretty sure it has been covered before but the gearbox in my EL is cactus i was told that all E series fit all E series so i brought a low K EF gearbox to go in to replace it, i dropped the car off at the mechanic and he said "i won't even touch it" he basically said that an EF gearbox will not fit an EL because the filler tube won't fit and it's wired differently.
is he correct or is he just being a lazy so & so

it will fit fine, the box is the same except for the dip stick filler tube, and the dipstick filler tube will fit..
the guy is just being a lazy so and so, you can use a box and converter from ea 4speed to au3 with no issues, its only ba 4 speed auto that's wired different |

the swap is complete and it fitted just fine, but now it has a new problem (grr) when the gearbox is cold it runs just fine but if i boot the car or if i have just finish running a full car load of people around (im an unofficial taxi) then it hesitates to shift from 1st to 2nd then when it does it shifts very harshly.
I've checked the fluid level and it fine, I've had the filters & oil replaced also fine, could this be a computer problem? or should i look for another gearbox again!

{USERNAME} wrote: im thinking a bad or sticking solenoid in the box hmm that would make sense because i can only downshift with the shifter when i accelerate, if i take my foot off the throttle when i shifted it into a lower gear it will basically put itself into neutral untill the rpm goes up enough to engage the gear for the speed, i know that's a HUGE no no for an auto, but sometimes i do need to do that if I'm towing a large load and i don't want the gearbox to shift up & i want constant drive. i took it for a drive today & it didnt seem as bad but i'll keep an eye out & start saving some coin for just in case.
