My gearbox is really weird. AFter being in my mates EL last night I noticed his gear changes were a hell of a lot smoother then mine usually are (EL I6 Auto).

sometimes (usually happens after I reverse out of somewhere like a parking spot) I will put it in D and accerlate nothing happens. It will rev to about 3-3.5k RPM then violently slam into 1st gear. I figued out a temp solution to this. Cuz I know when it happens I put it in neutral and then back into drive. Then it works.

Another issue is when I drive normally sometimes the gear changes are violent ie shake the car a little, not smooth. (Note sturggling to explain here). But only sometimes.

Is my gear box on its way to be f**k or what else is the issue?

when was the last time you did a service? could be on its way out or maybe a lazy solenoid (typical)

that was happening to my car. needs oil in it. might aswell get it serviced at the same time. but my machanic said just to put oil in it and test it for a couple of weeks and if the gearbox is still good then get it service cause you might of damage it by now and youll waste your money to service it then recodition it or get another one ..but its up to you..

all ef auto gearboxes have dip stick
should be near the firewall driver side with a orange or yellow poker on the top..

95LE Ford transmission fluid you want, ford likes to be diff and have its own fluid. dont get the wrong one.. its about $8-10 at a shell or whatever servo too

This is not true. Seems mid way through the EF series, ford removed the dip stick from the auto's as in their mind the owners were overfilling them causing problems.. I don't quite agree with fords viewpoint and wish they kept the dipstick :)

Cheers.
