was just wondering if anyone's ever done this and what info there is on the subject?
Obviously I'll have to do something with the ecu which the lack of the auto, and cluster too But I'm a tad worried about the tail-shaft and pedal box, will the standard auto shaft work with the manual or will I need a custom one specifically for long wheel base manual? And will a standard manual pedal box fit or can I modify the auto one? Also, what about the hole in the firewall? Will I need to make one? And will I need to re-enforce it? Any info would be great as I'm sick of autos, they drive me insane! |

Yes, it has been done a couple of times.
There are no differences with the conversion when compared to a sedan, as the front end is identical. There is a Manual Conversion Doco in the Tech Doco section. Cheers BenJ

The difficulty you will find is that the V8 T5 is very different to the six T5 and they are not a bolt up swap.
If you can find a V8 T5 conversion expect to pay up to 2k for it. It is possible to have a six T5 modded with a re engineered input shaft and a Dellow bellhousing etc, but it is a fair bit of messing around. Look for Banarcus's V8 Fairmont Wagon build for more info on this. Cheers BenJ

Pedal box will need to come out no matter what you do. If you source a manual v8 pedal box the dash will have to come out, if you get mal wood's clutch pin kit you'll have to pull the auto pedal box out to drill the bracket (the TCM is mounted to) out and fit the clutch pin kit.
Easiest way to fix ECU is with a J3 chip flashed to a manual EL XR8 or similar. No problem with cluster. Tail shaft will be fine. There is already a hole in the firewall. Reinforcing won't be necessary.

you can get a crs bellhousing to suit a 6cyl t5 to v8,need to lengthen the tailshaft 40mm.My car runs a 6cyl t5 behind my 5L...

ECU will work fine, V8s are not like their 6 cylinder bretheren.
Mal Wood sells a pin to bolt into auto pedal box, much easier than changing. Done this conversion many times. Only ever on V8s |

So what has to be done to the ECU to "trick" it into thinking theres an auto behind it??

Sounds good, ive been told by different people that it had to be done but thats just another issue not to worry about.
