Hi folks. I'm in the process of replacing the ball joints on an EL (1998). I bought a pair of stub axles from a wreckers a while ago, and have discovered they are marked "EL".

Now, my question is: are EF and EL stub axles the same ?

I have an idea that the mounting point for the tie rod was changed from the EF to the EL. ( Or was it from the ED to the EF ? ) I know that placing one set of stub axles against the other, the change can be seen. ( I haven't taken the stub axles out of the EL yet).

I believe the change was to place the tie rod connection closer to the ball joint, thus sharpening the steering somewhat.

The stub axles marked "EF" are stamped 94DA.

EB/ED stubs have the tierod hole different to the EF/EL's.
As you can see below the toe in is significantly changed.

There is though a 94DA and 95DA stub as well - don't know what the change is.

Thanks snap0964, that answers my question !! I understood the change was significant, but I couldn't remember what E series it changed from.

I can now put my ball joints in with confidence :lol: 8-)
