Have finished the diff swap and thanx to Krytox for his advise which helped sort out my vibration issues.
I now have an EF XR6 diff in the EL Fairmont with Ef upper control arms. It now feels a little different in the rear, almost a bit floaty if that makes any sense. I assume this is due to the differences in suspension set up between the EF and EL?? Note my car is also lowered. My question is........ I have read that the Ef watts linage mount is also different, will it help any if I swap the Diff covers over ??? or will it possibly make it even worse? Cheers KSK

Yes, EL-AU diff hats watts pin has a lower rear roll center. Definatley a must for handling.

Also the EF/EL handbrake cable setup is different.

NON XR the position changed from EF to EL based on what tickford learned in the XR EF. The EF upper control arms are the same length as the XR ones but are not the same, the XR ones are not straight but have a kink down at the diff end so they clear the housing at the suspension limit.

Cheers KSK Get the XR upper control arms around $100 new each in nolathane, also check the lower control arm bushes as they are likely to be original.

Thanks for the replies guys ..... not sure now if I have normal EF or EF XR control arms??? Will measure up the diff covers in the weekend - sounds like it may atleast address the hand brake mounting issue.
Many thanks KSK

The EF upper control arms are approx 350 between hole centres and the EL are 320mm between hole centres.

I would have had the EF LSD centre fitted to the EL housing as the upper arm mounts are different as well as the upper arm lengths being different.

Going for the most posts in one hit record MadMat?
There is no difference in the EF XR diff housing to the EL one AFAIK (handbrake brackets aside). The EF and EL XR upper control arms are 340mm centre and fit the rear EL and XR hole. EF are around the same length but only fit the top hole. The EL is shorter and it fits the front hole on a XR or EL diff. Where you need the XR geometry is when you lower the car to at or below XR height.
